Dangdut is a form of Indonesian folk music. Dangduts are often sung in Javanese, Indonesian, or sometimes other languages. The dangdut that originated in Makasar, South Sulawesi is called "Doleng". This event is the second edition of Daleng 2012 which was held in Makasar, South Sulawesi. Even though this concert is an official contest, not much attention is voiced by the media due to its controversial topic. The competition attracted 12 participants including contestants from other countries such as Malaysia and Singapore as well as Indonesia.. The winner was Iwan Fals from East Java. Artis Dangdut Makasar 2012 is a one-hour special that airs on Indonesia’s Metro TV from 21:00 to 22:30 WIB on 7 February 2012. It features the 12 contestants who competed for the title of "Dangdut Star of Makasar" and will be broadcast nationally throughout Indonesia and other countries. There were two rounds of voting, the first round by judges and the second round via SMS voting by viewers to determine which artist will win this competition.
